Judo -
What is Judo? - Judo is a martial arts discipline
developed by Jigoro Kano which concentrates on using the opponents
strength and momentum and diverting this energy into an attack or
defensive move. It is thus known as the gentle way and by using
these techniques a weaker and smaller person can defend themselves
against a stronger adversary. Judo techniques include methods of
Ukemi - or ways to break a fall without harming yourself; and
throws, holds, strangles and locks. In general practice is
divided between standing work or Tachiwaza and ground work - Newaza
but in a contest the opponents may move from one to the other.
